Permanent hair dye enters the hair cuticle and changes the colour of the hair shaft, and while permanent colour can lose vibrancy over time, it is formulated to give lasting colour and full grey coverage. With semi-permanent hair dye, colour is only superficially delivered on the outside of the hair shaft, so it fades after 6-8 weeks. Unlike permanent hair dye, semi-permanent colour can’t be used to go lighter than your natural shade.

How do I apply permanent hair dye?
Where some permanent hair dyes require brush tools and nozzle applicators, Garnier GOOD permanent hair dye can be applied all over your hair like a hair mask. Follow the mixing instructions for your colourant and developer sachets, and once your dye is ready, put your gloves on and apply with your hands – it’s that easy! Our top tip for hair dyeing at home is to section the hair first and apply evenly at the roots, working down to the ends.
How long should I leave permanent hair dye in?
When colouring your hair with permanent hair dye, you can typically leave the formula on for 30 to 45 minutes. The Garnier GOOD Permanent Hair Dye can be left on your hair for up to 30 minutes to achieve intense, glossy colour. After rinsing, follow with the sachet of conditioner included in your tub.
Can I wash my hair after permanent dye?
After you have rinsed out your permanent hair dye and conditioned the hair, we generally recommend that you wait about 48 hours before properly washing your hair with your usual shampoo and conditioner. This gives the colour pigments a chance to settle into the hair to preserve your colour for longer.
